"Located beside the Limerick City Gallery of Art, People's Park is the most popular green space in Limerick. Dating from 1877, this is a tranquil oasis and the city's main park, a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic, bathe in the rare sunshine, or merely enjoy a wander in the fresh air. A large selection of mature deciduous and evergreen trees dot the park and, during the spring and summer, visitors can admire a wonderful display of flowers."

15 Best Things to Do in Limerick (Ireland
"In Newtown Pery, the People’s Park was imagined in the first decades of the 19th century as a grand Georgian place in the vein of Mountjoy Square in Dublin. But the development was curtailed by the Great Famine, and only one terrace of flat-fronted mansions was completed. The park was opened in 1877 and is the main parcel of greenery in the centre of the city."

Must-Visit Attractions in Limerick, Ireland
"Not an overly impressive sight in its own right, Limerick’s Treaty Stone symbolises an agreement that ended the Williamite War. The truce didn’t last for long, and the events that led to it still echo on. It’s not an overly impressive relic in its own right, but it has fantastic views, a plaque explaining the history (which dates back to 1691) and offers a real sense of stepping back in time."

"The Treaty Stone symbolises the agreement between the Williamites and the Jacobites that ended the Williamite War. The truce did not last long, since there are some tensions lingering. The place can be very lovely to spend some time and learn some history regarding the place."

The Most Beautiful Buildings in Limerick, Ireland
"A glance at the Ireland of old is on offer at this riverside, long-ruined castle. Adare Desmond is essentially a shell of the old structure, but there’s enough left to justify tours, and the buildings and their surrounds make for a fantastic slightly off-the-beaten-track exploration. There’s a sacred fairy ring just around the corner, and very little development visible from the sight, giving this a real sense of the Ireland of its 13th century construction."

"Just outside the town of Adare (which we recommend in its own right, see below) Adare Desmond Castle is a 13th-century riverside fortress, now in ruins, sat right next to an ancient ring fort. Regular tours during the summer give an insight into the spot’s revolutionary history while an exhibition gives a sense of life at the castle through the Middle Ages."

The Toll House
The Toll House
Limestone toll house, built beside a bridge in 1840 with Gothic Revival architecture.
1 Castle St, Limerick, V94 P5HV, Ireland
Historical landmark
Mentioned by Culture Trip
The Most Beautiful Buildings in Limerick, Ireland
"An old structure on Limerick’s riverside originally designed to do exactly what it sounds like it should (collect tolls), what makes The Toll House unique is the faux defensive structure attached to the otherwise normal (and tiny) building to give it a sense of grandeur. The house, on the end of a line of terraced structures on the river, and close to the castle, dates back to the 1840s and isn’t open to the public. However, the oddity of its placement and contrast with the surrounding neighbourhood make it well worth a stroll down the Shannon regardless."

Must-Visit Attractions in Limerick, Ireland
"An 1840s riverside structure that looks like a castle, the Toll House is a faux defensive structure and was designed simply to collect a payment from those travelling into the city on the river. It’s just a building, but one quirky and well located enough to be worth the stroll down the banks of the Shannon for a visit."
